Annual Postgraduate Symposium meeting 2009

The RSC Bioorganic group held its annual postgraduate symposium at the University of Leeds on 6th April 2009.  The meeting was attended by about 110 delegates, and about 50 students presented their research, either as a talk or a poster.  The meeting was rounded off with a plenary lecture from Professor Sheena Radford (Astbury Centre for Structural Molecular Biology, University of Leeds) with the lecture “How well evolved is the folding code?”.  The meeting was sponsored by RSC, Syngenta, Pfizer and AstraZeneca.

The prize for the best poster was awarded to Jill Hanna, University of Edinburgh, who presented her research on the applications of lanthanide complexes in sensing and imaging applications.  Stuart Haynes, University of Warwick, won the prize for the best talk; he described his research into the biosynthesis and mutasynthesis of prodiginine and its analogues.  Runner-up prizes were also awarded for posters (Adrian Fowkes, Leeds; Megan Stanton-Humphreys) and talks (Martin Challand, Southampton; Matthew Burton, Durham).
