OBC Board Members awarded prizes at ACS meeting 2008

Members of the OBC Editorial Board have been awarded prizes at the American Chemical Society 236th National Meeting and Exposition held in Philadelphia from 17-21 August 2008.
Ben Davis (University of Oxford, UK) has been awarded by the ACS Carbohydrate Division the 2008 Horace S. Isbell Award for outstanding contributions to the field of carbohydrate chemistry. The award recognizes carbohydrate scientists under the age of 41 who have demonstrated excellence in the field and show promise of continuing to make high-quality contributions to carbohydrate chemistry and biochemistry. It is the first time someone in the UK has won this honour.

Jeffrey Bode (University of Pennsylvania, USA), a member of the OBC Advisory Board was awarded the Arthur C. Cope Scholar Award. The prize is awarded for achievement in the field of organic chemistry research and its purpose is to recognize and encourage excellence in the development of organic chemistry. It is generally considered one of the highest honors in the field. The award is sponsored by the Arthur C. Cope Fund, and has been awarded since 1973 by the American Chemical Society.

Ben Feringa (University of Groningen, The Netherlands) of the OBC Advisory Board and Dave Leigh (University of Edinburgh, UK) of the OBC Editorial Board both spoke at the Tetrahedron Prize for Creativity in Organic Chemistry symposium. The prize, this year awarded to Professor Sir J Fraser Stoddart (Northwestern University, USA), is awarded to organic chemists who have made significant original contributions to the field, in its broadest sense.
