Organic & Biomolecular Chemistry

The international home of synthetic, physical and biomolecular organic chemistry.

Issue 12 of OBC

05 June 2009

The outside front cover, designed by Patrick Guiry, at University College Dublin, Ireland, and colleagues depicts Irish chirality old and new: the spiral background is taken from a 5000 year old Irish design found at the entrance to a Neolithic passage tomb at Newgrange, Ireland. The entrance to the tomb is shown in the inset image. The cover represents their work on the synthesis and resolution of a new axially chiral quinazolinap ligand.

The inside front cover, supplied by Perspective author Olivia Reinaud, at Paris Descartes University, France, and colleagues, shows calix[6]arenes shaped into conic funnels through biomimetic coordination chemistry or self-assembly. They are remarkable receptors for neutral guests and their versatility allows tuning and switching behaviours.
