The biennial conference, organised by the Heterocyclic and Synthesis Group of the RSC and held on 7th-11th May 2009 in Grasmere, showcased many of the exciting recent developments in heterocyclic chemistry.
A panel of judges, including deputy editor of OBC, Richard Kelly, agreed that there were many fine posters but eventually chose Alan's presentation on his work towards the synthesis of a target molecule with potential anti-MRSA activity as the winning entry.
As his prize Alan wins a year's free print subscription to the journal.
