Ryong Ryoo is Professor of Chemistry at Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST). He received his B.S. degree from Seoul National Universityin 1977, M.S. degree from KAIST in 1977, and Ph. D. degree from Stanford Universityin 1986 (on Pt clusters supported on zeolite, under the direction of Professor Michel Boudart). After spending a postdoctoral period with ProfessorAlex Pines at the Universityof California, Berkeley in 1986, he moved to his current position at KAIST. He became FullProfessor in 1996. He is currently the director of the Center for Functional Nanomaterials, which is founded at KAIST by Korean Ministry of Science and Technology according to the National Creative Research Initiative Program. He received the Korea's Top Scientist Award in 2005 for his pioneering work on ordered mesoporous carbons. He is a member of the council of the International Zeolite Association, and the International Mesostructured Materials Association. His current research interests include nanostructured materials, mesoporous materials, metal nanoparticles, and their catalytic applications.
