The quantum yields, spectroscopic properties and reactions of the 4-hydroxyquinoline (4HQN) triplet state with tryptophan, tyrosine and ascorbate have been studied in aqueous solutions at different pH using laser flash photolysis technique. The lack of p53 function did not affect cell proliferation or attenuate the initial phases of programmed cell death after photodynamic therapy with hypericin; however, it did suppress nuclear DNA fragmentation and led to higher clonogenic ability, especially in hypoxia.

Photopolymerization of 5-mercapto-2,2-bithiophene functionalized Cu, Ag, and Au nanoparticles was realized through UV irradiation. A particle size-dependent electron transfer is observed in Cu and Au, but not in Ag. The polymerized BTSM has a better conductivity.
