Committing to collaborations with further education
Our CEO Dr Robert Parker was yesterday welcomed by Wirral Metropolitan College at the opening of their new Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths Centre.
Robert also signed a new collaboration with the college, which forms part of our commitment to building stronger links within the further education sector.
This is our first formal partnership with a further education college, and means that we will be working closely with Wirral Metropolitan in future to promote and support those aspiring to work in the chemical sciences. We have committed to support and promote the college’s chemistry-based initiatives and events, and the college has committed to work towards the accreditation of their courses, as well as encouraging students to work towards their Registered Science Technician or Registered Scientist awards.
"It is really exciting to have the opportunity to see the inspirational work going on at Wirral Metropolitan College and to witness the opening of the new STEM centre", said Robert. "The new facilities will provide students with an excellent learning experience, which is so important in developing the people who will make the scientific advances of tomorrow, from new medicines to renewable fuels. Their journey starts with great teaching and we are pleased to have signed a collaboration with the college that will see us work ever closer together in the future."
The college offers a wide range of vocational courses in the chemical sciences, and their specialist new Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths (STEM) Centre supports students to gain practical skills, experience and qualifications. Thanks to the STEM Centre, which is based at the College’s Twelve Quays Campus, students will have the opportunity to work with specialist equipment that they would usually only see in the workplace or a university. The STEM Centre will help students gain the skills and qualifications from level 1 through to foundation degree and degree programmes, to take advantage of the growth in jobs across Wirral and the Liverpool City Region.
