Publishing submission processes are well known for their time demands, and chemical scientists regularly lose valuable research time to submission systems.
We are working to change that.
Smarter submissions - more time for impact
Over the past few months we have been testing and developing a new submission system for our flagship journal, Chemical Science.
The updates we have made so far have their foundations in real issues, told to us by members of the research community.
They include adding a tracker to make it easier for authors to check on a paper's progress for Chemical Science, and for other journals where an APC is required, introducing a convenient online card payment system.
These improvements have contributed to saving more than 6,000 research hours so far.
This pilot alone will give 33,000 hours back to our authors by 2023.
In 33,000 hours you could:
-
travel to the moon over 450 times
-
swim the length of the Amazon river over 17 times
-
climb Mount Everest over 20 times
-
sail around the world
What could you achieve with an hour of extra research time?
We think that every piece of quality research in the chemical sciences – whatever the field, whenever the discovery comes about – deserves to be noticed, read, shared and utilised by as many people as possible.
That is why Chemical Science is gold open access, and why it had to be the journal we chose for this pilot. Faster submission, combined with the benefits of open access publishing, and our self-promotion support tools, results in a bigger boost in visibility for your research.
The main thing we hope these updates will do is give you time. Time that you can invest in your current research project, in sharing your work more widely, and in fostering collaborations that produce incredible results like this.
Whatever your goal, we will do all we can to help you make the biggest impact.
It's time to increase your impact
