The bonding between two atoms is not as clear cut as the simple models met so far might suggest. The phrase 'Spectrum of bonding' is probably a more realistic phrase to use to describe chemcial bonding as in many compounds the chemical bonding lies somewhere between ionic and covalent bonding.
After working through this topic you will:
- understand the orbital model of the atoms
- explain how electronegativity influences bonding
- support your students as they reshape their ideas when they are introduced to more sophisticated models of the atom and chemical bonding
- access a range of resources to support the learning and teaching of covalent bonding.
