Before most examples of chemical change can happen reactants need to collide with sufficient energy. This is called the activation energy. The activation energy is linked to the temperature and can be expressed using a mathematical relationship known as the Arrhenius expression.
By the end of this topic you will:
- be able to explain what activation energy is;
- understand why rate is so closely linked to temperature;
- use the Arrhenius expression; and
- have teaching nad learning strategies to support this topic.
