This course covers all the essential knowledge and practice to start developing methods and analysing samples using solid phase micro-extraction. The course covers the theory, method development, optimisation, maintenance and troubleshooting of the technique by mixing presentations with lab exercises. This hands-on course is 50% theory and 50% practical in a lab environment, with a small group size of a maximum of 4 delegates.
This one day course is Day 2 of the Hands-on Sample Preparation course.
We look at the fundamental theory of solid-phase microextraction addressing both Headspace-SPME and Immersion-SPME. We review various types of SPME phases and fibres available then move to the lab to investigate the sensitivity of different fibres for a specific sample. You will learn how to set up SPME instrumentation and how to perform regular SPME maintenance along with troubleshooting of the technique. We also introduce other related techniques like SBSE, SPE-TD and SPDE.
At the end of the course you will have gained both knowledge and experience of using the technique with a GC or GC-MS to analyse samples, optimise method parameters and perform instrument set-up, maintenance and troubleshooting.
Good knowledge of GC or GC-MS or have attended the Complete GC & GC-MS or the Hands-on GC & GC-MS courses.
Additional infoIncludes: lunch and refreshments; hardcopy of the training manual in colour; any instrument parts & consumables used; certificate of attendance.
