This course covers all the essential knowledge and practice to start developing methods and analysing samples using thermal desorption. The course covers the theory, method development, optimisation, maintenance and troubleshooting of the technique by mixing presentations with lab exercises. This hands-on course is 50% theory and 50% practical in a lab environment, with a small group size of a maximum of 4 delegates.
This one day course is Day 3 of the Hands-on Sample Preparation course. Beginning with the fundamental theory of thermal extraction and desorption, we explain the principles of TD and the different types of samples that can be analysed using this technique along with how to collect samples. We review the different types of packing materials (sorbents) that are available and suitable for various types of samples. You will then use this learning to create TD methods, collect and analyse samples and experiment with parameters to see the effects. We finish the day by discussing essential maintenance and troubleshooting of a TD instrument.
At the end of the course you will have gained both knowledge and experience of using the technique with a GC or GC-MS to analyse samples, optimise method parameters and perform instrument set-up, maintenance and troubleshooting.
You must have good knowledge of GC or GC-MS or have attended the Complete GC & GC-MS or the Hands-on GC & GC-MS courses.
Additional infoIncludes: lunch and refreshments; hardcopy of the training manual in colour; any instrument parts & consumables used; certificate of attendance.
