1st European Symposium on Sorption Science

5 - 7 September 2018, Vienna, Austria

Introduction
Both gravimetric and chromatographic sorption based techniques have undergone rapid instrumentation developments over past 10 years. Advancements in these methods have not only speeded up materials characterization, but have also resulted in new types of sorption science methodologies.

The motivation behind the advancements in sorption instrumentation, in particular Dynamic Vapor Sorption (DVS) and Inverse Gas Chromatography (IGC), was driven by the development of novel classes of porous materials as well as the need to develop an deeper scientific understanding of the behaviour of many new types of organic and inorganic solids such as pharmaceuticals and nano-particulates. This symposium supports a unique interdisciplinary conference with sorption experts about the challenges and opportunities in gravimetric and chromatographic techniques that are employed to study the sorbents including zeolites, MOFs, nanomaterials, composites, fibres, excipients, foods and pharmaceuticals.

The aim of this symposium is to focus what vapor/gas sorption instrumentation such as iGC and DVS can offer scientifically and how can sorption science provide solutions for rational design of new materials, improved manufacturing processes, enhanced stability of pharmaceuticals and food ingredients, moisture induced morphology changes various materials including polymers, drying kinetics, diffusion properties of powders and packaging materials to name a few key applications.
