The 2021 AGM will be held virtually on Wednesday 31st March, starting at 1800. The Committee elections are important as ever. The three Officers are to be elected before the AGM by the Committee, and it may well be that they will be unchanged. Six members of the Committee continue in office, and three have completed their first period of office but are eligible for re-election at the AGM. In total we have seven vacancies for Ordinary Members. Unfortunately the Committee will lose Christine Rodgers, who must be "furloughed" for at least two years after many years of dedicated service.
One benefit of a virtual meeting is that we don't have to leave home in order to participate. We hope that we shall meet Section members whom we have not met before, and that we receive Committee nominations from those who have not considered volunteering in the past. We are not only recruiting from research and development or retired Members, as school teachers are under-represented and many others who may regard themselves as peripheral to Chemistry will have a great deal to offer.
After the formal business, Dr Douglas Barnes, Head of Chemistry at C-Capture Ltd, will give us "A Brief Introduction to CCS". He was scheduled to talk at the cancelled 2020 AGM but is willing to give us a second chance. C-Capture developed as a spin-out company from the University of Leeds School of Chemistry and has a pilot plant at Drax power station.
