Centenary Lecture “Inorganic Chemistry in Cancer Diagnosis and Treatment”

20 May 2011, Newcastle upon Tyne, United Kingdom

Introduction
The first part of the lecture will highlight a fluorescent zinc sensor that was prepared and used to track the development of prostate cancer in the TRAMP mouse, a transgenic model of that disease in the mouse. There will be some details of how the sensor works - mainly inorganic chemistry.

It will continue with a review the history of the platinum drugs, describe how they work, and highlight some recent published and unpublished results on how they have been improved to move to the clinic with a new generation of candidates.
