PURPOSE
The purpose of the workshop is to sensitize young and aspiring scientists on the need to overcome the barrier to gender equity in science on the theme of this years GWB "Acceleration equity in science with a focus on the international year of quantum science and Technoloy.
OBJECTIVES OF THE WORKSHOP
1. Educate participants on the importance of gender equality in chemistry, and also highlighting the current gender disparities in the field and the broader scientific community
2. Provide strategies for creating inclusive and supportive environments that encourage gender diversity in research teams, classrooms, and professional settings.
3. Equip participants with skills and strategies to support women and other underrepresented genders in pursuing careers in chemistry, from education to leadership roles.
4. Discuss ways to ensure equal access to mentorship, funding, career development opportunities, and leadership positions, which can be disproportionately unavailable to certain genders.
5. Networking and Mentorship: Facilitate networking opportunities for participants, helping them connect with mentors, role models, and peers who can support theirprofessional growth in chemistry and quantum science and technology.
6. Advocate for changes at institutional or organizational levels to ensure gender equality in hiring practices, leadership roles, and academic or professional settings. By achieving these objectives, the workshop would contribute to advancing gender equality in the field of chemistry, quantum science and Technology, helping break down barriers and creating a more inclusive and diverse scientific community.
TARGET AUDIENCE
The target audience shall be female science students at Senior Secondary School level as well as aspiring female scientists at Junior secondary School level.
SPEAKERS
Speakers shall be drawn from different areas of chemistry endeavours and shall include
1. Director, Centre for Gender Studies, Benue State University, Makurdi
2. Director, Centre for counselling and Human Development, Benue State University, Makurdi
3. President, Chemical Society of Nigeria (CSN), Benue state Chapter
4. A representative of Women In Chemistry, Benue state Chapter.
The speakers will speak of different topics including

2. Towards making the right career choice
3. Quantum science and technology: an overview 4. Careers opportunities in Quantum Science/Chemistry
