What is Environmental Science: Advances?
Environmental Science: Advances is a gold open access journal, that publishes research from any discipline that advances environmental sustainability. Our publications cover impactful work from engineering and ecology to atmospheric science, agricultural science and much more.
We offer you a trusted platform for crucial discoveries, and we are particularly interested in research that contributes to the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Why is interdisciplinary research important to Environmental Science: Advances?
Although my main field is mechanical engineering, I strongly insist on the link of my research (pollutant emissions of a renewable diesel e-fuel) to environmental science. Because of the broad scope of the RSC Environmental Science portfolio, I was able to put my research in an appropriate environment which underlines this link.
Our planet faces critical challenges, from plastics polluting the oceans to the urgent need to find more sustainable resources. We believe that working together – by making research openly available to all and bridging the gap between disciplines – is one way we can face these challenges and build a better future. Interdisciplinary research allows us to consider our environment through a new lens, so we can protect and preserve the world around us.
We do everything we can to encourage collaboration between disciplines. This includes supporting the researcher community as a society publisher and providing a publishing process that works for everyone.
- We offer you opportunities to publish in our cross-journal-themed collections on key energy and environmental challenges.
- We are led by an exceptional group of active researchers. Our editors-in-chief, and our editorial and advisory boards, keep us connected to scientists worldwide.
- We handle submissions expertly, providing a rigorous and fair assessment process, and giving you the option to choose single- or double-anonymised peer review.
- Our journal is a gold open access, so every article is available to read by anyone around the world.
What role does open access play in interdisciplinary research?
Many of my colleagues and I in environmental sciences believe that everything must be done to make sure our research findings are available for free and instantly to everyone on the planet. Only if those findings are readily available will we be able to accelerate the pace of discovery and innovation, and solve some of the most challenging environmental problems of the 21st century. With a strong brand name and open access availability, I would highly recommend RSC journals to those in my group and beyond.
Open access publishing makes articles available to everyone. This gives anyone the chance to be inspired by recent publications, including researchers from different disciplines. There are no barriers to research – and no barriers to potential.
It is not only researchers who can benefit from this way of publishing. Open access articles are also available to funders, policymakers and the general public. And when crucial findings can go beyond academic circles, they can make a real-world difference.
At the Royal Society of Chemistry, we make sure that open access is a viable route for our authors. Until mid-2024, we are covering the article processing charges in Environmental Science: Advances, so you can publish gold open access for free. We have outlined everything you need to know about open access here, including information on the different types of open access publishing, funding options, discounts and waivers, and licences.
