Professor Rawil Fakhrullin FRSC

Rawil Fakhrullin studied biochemistry in Kazan State University, obtaining a specialist diploma (2003) and PhD (2006). He also obtained MSc in chemistry and nanotechnology from University of Hull (2007) and DSc (habilitation) from Kazan Federal University (2011). He has worked as a visiting scientist in University of Hull and University of Sheffield (UK), Yeditepe University (Turkey) and Louisiana Tech University (USA). He taught biomaterials science and advanced microscopy courses as a visiting professor at the Department of Physics and Chemistry at University of Palermo (Sicily, Italy).
His research interests are focused on fabrication of functional biomaterials for drug delivery and tissue engineering, development of advanced imaging techniques, construction of biosensors and nanotoxicology. In particular, he works on using of halloysite nanoclay as a component of hybrid nanomaterials, advancement of cell surface engineering methodology and applications of high-resolution microscopy techniques for investigation of cultural and historical heritage artefacts. He has published over 100 peer-reviewed papers, 10 book chapters and edited 4 books for major scientific publishers. In 2017 he was admitted as a Fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry (UK).
