Mr Ernest Kenneth Scott CChem
Ernest Kenneth "Ken" Scott was born on 21st November 1931 in Newcastle-upon-Tyne.
Ken's career in the world of chemistry started with his studies at Rutherford Technical College in Newcastle.
After some years of study he was elected to the then Royal Institute of Chemistry as an associate member on the 19th of June 1959, becoming a full member some years later.
Most of Ken's working life was in the paint and plastics industries.
The pinnacle of his working achievements was the founding of Starchem Ltd in 1971. At the time Starchem specialisedin cleaning chemicals, anti-dust wipes and innovative peelable paints.
Starchem is still thriving today, employing some thirty people and supplying products to over forty export destinations.
In later years Ken was a keen traveller, particularly enjoying cruises. His hobbies included model engineering - forming miniature steam engines with a lathe and milling machine, making miniature houses, collecting coins, military medals and old share certificates.
He is sadly missed and will be fondly remembered by his wife of fifty-five years - Joan, four sons and two grandchildren.
