Professor Christopher Hitchcock - obituary
02 November 1931 – 28 November 2022
Kit died peacefully on 28th November at the grand old age of 91. A graduate of Trinity College, Cambridge, Kit spent his first years at the Medical Research Council at Mill Hill researching the biochemistry of Interferon before moving to the newly built laboratories of Unilever at Colworth House in Sharnbrook in the 60s. He spent most of his career there as an analytical chemist and biochemist working on (amongst other things) the ELISA immunoassay, lipid biochemistry and the irradiation of food. He was a visiting professor at Queen's University in Belfast and after leaving Unilever, became a Professor at University of Surrey where he lectured and continued to research and review. He was happiest in the lab (or later in the garage!) doing some experiments and continuing to learn and discover. He leaves behind his wife Shirley, three children and seven grandchildren.
