Online student community relaunches with new features
In order to better support those studying chemistry, we relaunched ChemNet, our community for anyone aged 14 to 18 who is studying chemistry, in a brand new online environment and with a variety of new features. The aim of the site is to support students with their studies, help them make choices for their future, and enable them to build a network of friends who share a passion for chemistry.
Hilary White, Membership Operations Manager at the Royal Society of Chemistry explains: “ChemNet is our trusted network for 14-to-18-year olds. It is their first introduction to the Royal Society of Chemistry and enables them to engage with chemistry and its community. Our new online community offering is the next step allowing us to share our knowledge, skills and careers support with the next generation of future members.“
Study help and careers advice
One of the most popular ChemNet features has been Dr ChemNet, who will continue to answer students’ queries, explain theories and decipher practical results. On our new site, Dr ChemNet has been joined by Dr Careers, who will offer expert help in discovering future paths. From questions about which A-levels to take and whether university is the best next step to whether and how it is possible to gain professional recognition for vocational training, Dr Careers will be on hand to answer all careers-related questions.
Our experts will be joined by two new featured bloggers. Sara and Caitlin will be discussing their experiences as students in post-16 education. Their blog series will cover the triumphs and trials of applying for university, coping with change as you move between stages in your life, general musings and thoughts on chemistry and science and, no doubt, a lot more.
Resources, competitions and events
ChemNet also offers a variety of resources to help with studies and to keep up-to-date with what is happening in the chemical sciences. Users will also be able to get involved in a variety of competitions and events.
Following the launch of the new site, some ChemNet users already commented positively on the changes. One student commented: “Congratulations with the new website, it's very user-friendly and well designed!” This feeling was echoed in another response, saying: “Thumbs up! The site is faster and easier to use than the previous one.”
If you are between 14 and 18 years old and have a passion for chemistry and the chemical sciences, join our ChemNet community to find out more.
