Inspiring Indian chemistry teachers

Dr Yusuf Hamied, Chairman of leading Indian pharmaceutical company Cipla visits our Yusuf Hamied Inspirational Chemistry teacher training programme at IISER, Pune.

Dr Hamied, who generously donated INR 8 crore to support this innovative programme, was impressed with the enthusiasm of participating school teachers as well as the programme’s teacher training techniques.

Our teacher training program was organised in commemoration of IISER Pune’s foundation day programme held on the 21st April 2016 at the institute’s campus. Dr Yusuf Hamied was the chief guest at the celebrations.

In his inaugural address, Professor K N Ganesh, Director, IISER Pune, committed the institute’s support for the programme and offered IISER Pune as a venue for conducting future teacher training programs.

Over 75 science teachers from state schools across different regions of Maharashtra attended this teacher training programme. A participating teacher, who shared her experience, said “Your training was very interactive and engaging. I appreciate the techniques and will use them in my classroom” 

Avra Labs founder, Dr A V Rama Rao delivered a talk on ‘Role of chemistry in daily life and drug development’, which was well received by teachers attending the workshop.
