Introducing our Chemistry Student Guides
Written, reviewed and tested by students, for students
We are putting the students themselves at the heart of our new undergraduate chemistry book series.
The series, Chemistry Student Guides, has been written with current students involved at every stage, to help identify the most challenging concepts of a chemistry degree and communicate these in a tried and tested way that works for students.
The first two titles to be launched: Introduction to Stereochemistry and Introduction to Contextual Maths in Chemistry are designed to supplement standard text books and other resources that students use, to provide a helping hand where it is most needed.
We created a book that works the same way as a novel in that you turn the pages to work through the story. There’s a path that you follow to solve the problems in the book. And you’re guided along that path as you read the text, which makes it a nice read.
Overall the book fills a gap in chemical education and is highly recommended to anyone teaching physical chemistry or laboratory skills to chemistry students in higher education.
Series issues
Introduction to Stereochemistry
Stereochemistry is a concept that often causes confusion for students when they first come across it. With problems focused on common misconceptions and errors, real life examples and hands-on exercises, this book will give students the tools they need to become confident in stereochemistry
Introduction to Contextual Maths in Chemistry
Written for those who may struggle with a mathematical understanding of chemistry, this book takes a ‘chemistry first’ approach – linking the maths to recognisable chemical concepts and using worked examples and problem sets to build confidence and proficiency.
Author spotlight
We spoke to two of the student authors of our Chemistry Student Guides to find out more about their role in the books, and what it was like working with experienced editors while studying toward their degree.
