Silver award for Payroll Giving contributions a sterling achievement – and the next target is the Gold standard
The Royal Society of Chemistry is pleased to announce we have received the Silver Award APGO Quality Mark for Payroll Giving for the first time.
Earning this award, which means more than 5% of our staff already make regular monthly donations through payroll giving, comes 11 years after attaining Bronze status. Now our sights are trained on the Gold standard, which would require more than 10% of employees to make donations.
We first applied to be a part of the Charities Aid Foundation Give as You Earn scheme (CAF GAYE) in 2012 and received Bronze status. This means that more than 1% of staff donate to charity via Payroll Giving each month.
Since then, more and more of our staff have shown their generosity to support good causes with regular contributions from their salary. Now we have hit the 5% threshold and received Silver status, the plan is to continue pushing to the next level.
“Earning this Silver Award is a tremendous achievement and a testament to the generosity of our colleagues,” said Rebekah Ayres, our Director of People and Culture. "One of our stated goals as a learned society is to help the chemical science community make the world a better place - this award shows that our team here is helping charities and other good causes to do just that too.
"Now that we have hit the 5% target needed to earn Silver status, we will continue helping staff transform their communities and boost the causes they care about through Payroll Giving and hopefully reach the Gold level."
Payroll giving across Britain raised £134 million last year, with more than 1.1 million employees donating to thousands of UK-registered charities. The Association of Payroll Giving Organisations (APGO) Quality Mark for Payroll Giving is a government-supported accreditation which recognises and rewards organisations of all sizes for making payroll giving available to their employees.
