Trio of RSC open access journals receive first full series of impact metrics
We are pleased to announce that three of our Open Access journals have received their first full set of impact metrics.
RSC Chemical Biology and Materials Advances have earned the distinction three years after they were first published, with Environmental Science: Atmospheres taking just two years to reach this point. All three journals are gold open access and are part of our larger pledge to go 100% open access by 2028.
The metrics include impact factor, article influence score and immediacy index and have been announced as part of the latest Journal Citation Report (JCR) for 2023, released by analytics and subscription-based services company Clarivate. These measures are used in conjunction with other quantitative and qualitative metrics to measure the impact of the work included in publications.
Each of the journals has distinguished itself in a competitive marketplace. RSC Chemical Biology (journal impact factor: 4.1; article influence score: 1.185, immediacy index: 0.6) has already managed to gain community support and establish itself as a publication with a reputation for quality.
Environmental Science: Atmospheres (journal impact factor: 3.4; article influence score: 0.789, immediacy index: 0.7) has established a reputation for rapid publication owing to the efficient and professional manuscript handling by the journal's international Associate Editors.
Meanwhile, Materials Advances (journal impact factor: 5.0; article influence score: 0.849, immediacy index: 1.0) has a broad pool of editors shared with our Journal of Materials Chemistry family, operating to complement and give consistent decisions across our wide portfolio of materials science journals.
Collectively, the three publications contribute towards our wider work on sustainability and address several of the United Nations’ 17 Sustainable Development Goals (specifically number 3, good health and wellbeing; number 7, affordable and clean energy; and number 13, climate action).
These publications have grown – and are continuing to grow – thanks to the hard work of scientists around the globe. We are extremely grateful for that trust and for the support of the journal communities.
Clarivate’s latest JCR release comes a year after the organisation announced it has made changes to its Journal Citation Reports.
