On 15 October 2018 we announced the winners of our annual Industry & Technology awards, at Chemistry Means Business.
Established over 10 years ago, the awards are given in recognition of outstanding achievements in entrepreneurship, innovation, outreach, applied science and technical skills.

Applied Catalysis Award
Ying Zheng, University of Edinburgh
Awarded for the development and application of recyclable, heterogeneous nanocatalysts.
Chemical Sciences Apprentice of the Year
Holly Carter, AstraZeneca
Awarded for the development of a method for determining solubility of organic solutes in organic solvents and its application in the AstraZeneca drug portfolio.
Chemistry World Entrepreneur of the Year Award
Clemenine Chambon, Oorja Development Solutions Limited
Awarded for outstanding contributions to the entrepreneurial application of bioenergy to solving major environmental, social and gender challenges in rural India.
Industrial Analytical Science Award
Paul Brewer, National Physical Laboratory
Awarded for excellence in the development of highly accurate and traceable analytical methods for the measurement of water vapour transmission rate.
Industry-Academia Collaboration Award
BP and University of Birmingham
Awarded for the invention and development of a new class of temperature responsive zwitter-ionic polymers for enhanced oil recovery.
Inspiration and Industry Award
Claire Murray, Laura Holland and Julia Parker, Project M
Awarded for running an outstanding nationwide citizen science chemistry project to engage UK secondary students and teachers in real-life research.
Industry Technician of the Year
Neil Sainty, BP
Awarded for contributions to developing BP’s High Throughput Experimentation capability in Hull.
Rising Star in Industry Award
Andrew Pollard, National Physical Laboratory
Awarded for the development and application of recyclable, heterogeneous nanocatalysts.
Awards night
The Industry and Technology Awards were announced on 15 October 2018 during a ceremony at Chemistry Means Business. The hosts for the night were Dame Carol Robinson OBE, President, Royal Society of Chemistry and Robin Ince, comedian and writer.
They also announced the winners of the Emerging Technologies Competition 2018, and we celebrated our most recent accredited companies.
