It was only possible to refine the structure by assigning each of the molecular T point group symmetry related C-C bonds to a free variable. The C-F bonds were all tied to a single free variable. Even then, for the the molecule disordered across the mirror plane there were three atoms (C23,C39,F40) for which the ADPs had to be constrained (ISOR) to stop them going non-positive-definite. In addition there are three independent molecules of toluene solvate; one disordered in a general position, one disordered about a 2-fold rotation , and one disordered on a 2/m symmetry site. Where possible the 6-membered rings of the toluenes were included as rigid bodies. In case any referee raises the question of the space group; Yes! I did try to refine an ordered structure in space group C2 . However the resultant R factor was very high and a difference map clearly showed residual peaks completing a disordered structure in C2/m. The free variable values refined as follows with nominal esds of 0.0003 , whilst individual bonds have esds of 0.001. In view of the disorder , both are probably underestimates and bond lengths should be treated with caution. The weighted R-factor wR and goodness of fit S are based on F^2^, conventional R-factors R are based on F, with F set to zero for negative F^2^. The threshold expression of F^2^ > 2sigma(F^2^) is used only for calculating R-factors(gt) etc. and is not relevant to the choice of reflections for refinement. R-factors based on F^2^ are statistically about twice as large as those based on F, and R- factors based on ALL data will be even larger. ; _refine_ls_structure_factor_coef Fsqd _refine_ls_matrix_type
