The authors wish to point out the following errors:

The final sentence of the section titled ‘Reversibility of the hybrid scavenging film’ should refer to Fig. 2, not Fig. 1.

The caption for Fig. 1 is incorrect; the correct caption reads: ‘Fig. 1 Optical absorbance data for heterogeneous [film, ()] and homogeneous [solution, ()] sensing of Hg(II) concentration. Solid lines are numerical fits to eqn 1, the correlation of estimated mercury loaded on the TiO₂–N719 film to mercury concentration (black) and binding mercury to N719 in solution (dark grey).’
