Year 12 Masterclass - FULLY BOOKED

Introduction
This lab is kitted out with the latest equipment that allows students and lecturers to work together using a mixture video demonstrations and live streaming, as well as traditional one-to-one assistance, to help them through their lab classes. During the masterclass students will be extracting trimyristin from nutmeg using reflux conditions. They will then isolate and recrystalise the product they have extracted. During the afternoon the students will be given the opportunity to test the purity of their products using mass spectrometry and NMR. Following a tour of the campus the students will analyze their spectra and decide whose product is the purest and who has the highest yield.
