Antibiotic resistance poses a global threat. It will take people from many different scientific disciplines—and from across academia, industry and clinical practice—working together to develop solutions to this challenge. Chemistry is central not only to improving diagnostics, but also to understanding antibiotic resistance and its causes, developing new therapies and mitigation strategies. This is why Royal Society of Chemistry has made this a priority for its advocacy and community support activities in 2015. For more references, please read an online article on our website.

The Royal Society of Chemistry is jointly organising a Medicinal Chemistry symposia on Antibacterial Agents: Chemistry & Mechanism of Actions, comprising of two events, as detailed below. The symposia will focus on understanding mechanisms of antibacterial drug resistance, fighting superbugs, addressing the challenges, and proposing potential solutions for the discovery of new antibiotics. It will feature a mix of high-profile international speakers and Chinese speakers from both academia and industry, providing a platform for medicinal chemists to exchange research information, discuss challenges, promote collaborations, and facilitate the transfer of new technologies.
• 5th RSC-CPA Symposium on Antibacterial Agents: Chemistry & Mechanism of Actions
Lanzhou University, Lanzhou, 25 August 2015
The Royal Society of Chemistry is collaborating with the Chinese Pharmaceutical Association (CPA) to organise a symposium in Lanzhou as part of the 2015 China National Medicinal Chemistry Conference organised by the CPA. It is co-sponsored by Medicinal Chemistry Professional Committee of Chinese Pharmaceutical Association and the Royal Society of Chemistry.
