Young Lipid Scientist Award 2016

Introduction
Congratulations to this year's Young Lipid Scientists for being selected to present their work at this event. The talks and speakers are as follows:

Examining the mechanism of pore formation by a human-specific bacterial toxin, Courtney Boyd, Imperial College London
The role of prostaglandin E2 in regulatory T cell development, Siobhan Crittenden, University of Edinburgh
Imaging patterns in lipid membranes through the use of molecular rotors, Michael Dent, Imperial College London
Using microfluidic technologies to engineer lipid membranes from the bottom-up, Kaiser Karamdad, Imperial College London
New insights into the α-Polymorph of cocoa butter, Marjorie Ladd Parada, University of Leeds
Lipidomics comparing DCD and DBD liver allografts uncovers lysophospholipids elevated in recipients undergoing early allograft dysfunction, Jin Xu, King’s College London

The shortlisted candidates have been asked to produce a summary / infographic of their work, which can be viewed by clicking on the links above.

The shortlisted candidates have been invited to give an oral presentation on the day of the event. Presentations will be 15 minutes long with a further 15 minutes available for questions.

After the presentations, the winner will be selected by a vote of the Lipids Group Committee and will receive a prize of £100 and a certificate. All the shortlisted candidates will receive one year complimentary membership of SCI.

The winner will also be eligible to give an oral presentation at EuroFedLipid 2016 in Ghent, Belgium for which the SCI will cover expenses up to the value of £400 to attend. A report from Nicola McCarthy, the 2015 Young Lipid Scientist Award winner, can also be found on the website, click here.
