What do stand-up comedy and biochemical engineering have in common? The award-winning Dr Jack Heal will reveal all with his hybrid science talk – stand-up comedy – debate, “Do Scientists Dream of Synthetic Sheep?”. The hilarious presentation will be preceded by the annual prize-giving for the 2016 winners of the Chemistry Challenge Competition.

Dr Jack Heal is a post-doctoral researcher in protein design and synthetic biology at Bristol University. He is part of a research group of protein designers who try to use chemistry to build and engineer new protein molecules that do not exist in nature. He is also a stand-up comedian and winner of the ‘Chortle Student Comedian of the Year’ award., and he has a particular interest in novel methods of science communication. His show was originally performed at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival and was born through a collaboration between  Bristol University scientists, a public engagement team, and a small London theatre company. He received a grant from the RSC to develop the show as an outreach project and has since performed at Bristol University, University College London, and Gloucestershire College.

This event will take place in the Brel Theatre at the British School of Brussels. As usual light refreshments will be available after the presentation to allow time for networking and further discussions.
