Extracellular Electron Transfer: Mechanisms and Opportunities

21 August 2017 12:12 - 23 August 2017 13:00, Norwich, United Kingdom

Introduction
Extracellular electron transfer allows electrons to traverse the cell envelope to couple intra- and extra-cellular redox processes. This process underpins bacterial colonisation of diverse habitats and provides opportunities for bioremediation and biotechnologies for sustainable production of electricity, fuels and valued chemicals.

This meeting will present and debate the latest developments in our understanding of the biochemistry that underpins extracellular electron transfer. It will review the state-of-the-art in utilising this behaviour for sustainable technologies and identify the primary biochemical challenges to be met for the informed development of opportunities in this area.
