5th RSC Early Career Symposium

Introduction

Hosted by the Royal Society of Chemistry's Early Career Network, this symposium will bring together early-career chemists from all sectors, in order to connect with emerging leaders and the latest advances in the chemical sciences.

This 2-day symposium offers an excellent opportunity for both industrial and academic researchers to present work and network with their peers in a relaxed environment.  Industrial researchers will be able to represent their companies among new talent and there is potential for building cross-sector networks for all researchers.

ECS2018 will comprise of three parallel sessions, covering Organic and Biochemistry, Physical and Analytical Chemistry, Inorganic and Materials Chemistry, as well as a session focused on outreach and impact. Delegates are encouraged to move between sessions to experience alternative careers and new chemistry. Sessions will include invited speakers representing emerging talent from industry and academia, who will showcase both their excellent research and their career progression.

Abstracts for both oral and poster presentation are welcome from academic and industrial chemists taking the first steps in their careers.

Abstract Submission

At the Symposium, as an early-career chemist, you will have an opportunity to deliver a talk about your research and your organisation to the next generation of leaders in the chemical sciences in a relaxed, supportive environment. Delegates can also expect to see the latest advances in chemical research, meet their peers and gain career insights from selected senior leaders.

Accepted oral abstracts will receive a contribution to their travel costs, and complimentary registration.

Bursaries
A limited number of grants are available to attendees of the Early Career Symposium and the 7th EuCheMS Chemistry Congress. To apply for a grant, please complete the grant application form.

There are two application deadlines: 14 May for early review, and 16 July. Successful applicants for the early deadline will receive their outcome in May, those who submit by the July deadline will receive their outcome in July  – late applications may not be considered.

The grants includes complementary EuCheMS registration and contribution towards travel. Terms and conditions are detailed in the grant application form.
Programme

Each parallel session will consist of high profile speakers who will talk about the latest developments in their work aligned to three broad areas of chemistry: Organic and biochemistry; Physical and analytical; Inorganic and materials. The talks will be accessible to those who may not have direct knowledge of the speaker’s area of expertise but are familiar with the area of chemistry. These sessions will also include submitted abstracts talks.

Accommodation
Accommodation is not available to book during the registration process.

Liverpool Convention Bureau Liverpool Convention Bureau who have obtained competitive rates at a variety of hotels for attendees of the Early Career Symposium. Any bookings and payments are made direct with the accommodation provider, not the Royal Society of Chemistry, and all queries and requests must be made direct to them.
