1 October 2020 19:30-21:00, United Kingdom

Introduction
This webinar is part of the Women in STEM (science, technology, engineering and maths) series of lectures, talks and panels organised jointly by the Lit and Phil, the Royal Society of Chemistry, the Women’s Engineering Society, Palace of Science, the Institute of Physics, and the Institution of Civil Engineers. The aim of these events is to celebrate the amazing work done by women in the North East in their area of STEM. This event is hosted by IChemE Tyneside.

The first speaker, Alison Couley, is an Associate Consultant within the AECOM Air Quality, Permitting and Process Safety Team based in Teesside. Alison is a Chartered Chemical Engineer and Member of the Institution of Chemical Engineers. Since graduating from Heriot Watt University in 1995, Alison has worked in process engineering, process safety and environmental compliance consultancy, specialising in compliance with COMAH (Control of Major Accident Hazards) and DSEAR (Dangerous Substances and Explosive Atmospheres) Regulations across a broad range of industry sectors predominantly in the UK and Ireland.

The second speaker will be Laura Jack. After completing her thesis at GlaxoSmithKline in Irvine, Laura graduated in 2013 with a Master’s in Chemical Engineering from Strathclyde University in Glasgow. She started working for Wood PLC on their graduate scheme in Aberdeen, gaining experience in large interdisciplinary teams to deliver engineering solutions and projects for a variety of clients in the energy industry. Following four years in a design EPC based role, Laura secured a Process Engineering role in Operations at the CATS Gas Terminal, a top tier COMAH site in Teesside. She has been based here for over 3 years, providing process engineering support to the pipeline and terminal operations team, managing engineering projects and taking an active role in environmental and process safety. Laura has recently become a Chartered Chemical Engineer.
