Introduction

We are delighted to announce that the 2022 RSC Central Yorkshire Local Section Top of the Bench heat will take place remotely in January 2022. The competition is designed this year to be run in school between the 17 and 28 January 2022, allowing teachers to schedule the competition as best fits their timetables. A team of four pupils per school, made up of two Year 9, one Year 10 and one Year 11 students will individually take on a chemistry quiz where the questions and answers are contained in a Google quiz accessed through the internet. We anticipate that the competition will take approximately 45 minutes in total to complete and there is no need for all four students to complete it at the same time. The competition is free to enter and the lead teacher from participating schools will be sent the link to the quiz shortly before 17 January. The winning team will go through to represent Central Yorkshire in the national competition in March 2022. To register your school to participate this year please email derek.wann@york.ac.uk and you will receive a registration form in mid-October. The deadline for registering will be 10 December 2021.
