Introduction

This symposium looks at modern analytical methods to detect counterfeit medicines and the UK government's response to the problem. Sub-standard and counterfeit medicines are a great threat to public health. They may cause death due to the absence of active drug, as found in some vaccines and antibiotics, or because of the presence of a toxic material.
