Introduction

International Year of Chemistry 2011 represents the 150th anniversary of Kekulé's publication of his original textbook on organic chemistry, whilst working at the University of Ghent. As part of the ceremony, RSC President Prof. David Phillips will hand over an International Landmark Plaque, and scientific historian Dr. Brigitte Van Tiggelen will give a lecture on Kekulé's career.
