Introduction
RSC Desktop Seminars provide an exciting opportunity to bring cutting-edge research directly to you. In this 90-minute seminar hosted by Environmental Science: Advances, you can hear from our Editor-in-Chief about the scope and aims of the journal, and from the author of our first published article. There will be the opportunity to share ideas and to ask questions to both of our speakers.

Speakers
Kevin Jones, Lancaster University, United Kingdom

Kevin Jones is Distinguished Professor at Lancaster Environment Centre (LEC), Lancaster University, UK. He was awarded his PhD from London University in 1984. He has been based at Lancaster for over 30 years, where his specialist research area concerns the sources, fates, behaviours and effects of organic contaminants in the environment. This includes extensive international collaborations and links with business and industry. He was appointed Director LEC, helping to establish it as one of the largest multi-disciplinary environment centres in Europe.  He received the American Chemical Society award for Creative Advances in Environmental Science and Technology (2020) and an international co-operation with Guangdong Province, China in 2021.


Manna Wang, Tokyo Institute of Technology, Japan

Manna Wang received her B.Sc. (Environmental Science) from Renmin University of China (2016) and M.Eng. (Civil Engineering) from Tokyo Institute of Technology (Tokyo Tech) (2018). Currently, she is a PhD candidate from the Water Environment Lab led by Associate Professor Chihiro Yoshimura at Tokyo Tech, and a recipient of the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS) Research Fellowship for Young Scientists.
 
Her research interests are broadly in water quality management and water treatment adopting experimental and modelling approaches. She is particularly interested in microbial analysis, microbial pollution, and disinfection treatment. In her current research project, she focuses on the assessment and modelling of the bacterial regrowth in environmental water after wastewater disinfection.
