From polymers to biomolecules: celebrating Dame Athene Donald’s contributions to Science and Policy

12 September 2022 11:00 - 13 September 2022 16:00, Cambridge, United Kingdom

Introduction
This meeting marks the retirement of Professor Dame Athene Donald FRS as a Professor of Physics at the Cavendish Laboratory, Cambridge, and is jointly sponsored by the RSC/IoP Polymer Physics group, and supported by the Biological Physics, Women in Physics, and Complex Fluids groups. It will include a retrospective of Athene’s career, and technical sessions on topics to which Athene has contributed so much:
- polymer physics
- the electron microscopy of materials
- biological physics.

It will also include two panel discussions on the science policy issues that Athene has contributed so much to:
- The benefits of interdisciplinary working for science, and the institutional and cultural barriers that stand in its way
- Raising the profile of equality, diversity and inclusion in science – how far have we come, and what remains to be done?

The meeting is co-chaired by Profs. Ruth Cameron (University of Cambridge) and Richard Jones (University of Manchester).
