Meteorites: The Stones from Outer Space that Made Our World

25 October 2022 19:30-21:30, Whitehaven, United Kingdom

Introduction
Meteorites: the Stones from Outer Space that Made Our World
Speaker: Dr Timothy Gregory
Synopsis: Earth's geological history is recorded in the rocks beneath our feet, but there is a limit to how far back in time these rocks can take u. Meteorites - stones that fall to the Earth's surface from outer space - are the leftover debris from the era of planet formation, and so can take us back to the earliest years of our Solar System's history. By studying meteorites we have come to learn what our Solar System is made from, how it formed, and exactly when it all began.
