Help us build a stronger future for chemistry.

Every time you support our work you create new and meaningful opportunities in education, inclusion and chemistry’s ability to tackle global challenges.

Your donation will help to create life-changing education programmes for children, to support talented students as they take their first steps into a new career, and to connect scientists around the world in new and pioneering collaborations. Most importantly it will help to secure the future of the chemical sciences, thereby helping chemistry to become a rich and rewarding part of many more people’s lives.

Every gift, no matter how big, will make a difference. You can make a single personal donation or one from a company or group, set up a regular payment, or pay in money from a funeral or other collection, or from fundraising.

Read on to find out the ways you can show your support for chemistry today, or make a donation now.

How your gift will help us

Offer an impactful education

By ensuring everyone has access to an inspiring chemistry education, we can secure the best talent for the chemical sciences. You will be helping us to provide high quality subject-specific professional development for teachers of chemistry and the support that students need and deserve, to reach their full potential.

Tackle global challenges

The chemical sciences have an enormous role to play in solving the major global challenges of today and tomorrow. Your support will make these solutions a reality, by helping us to bring researchers, academia, and business together in brand new and effective collaborations.

Build an inclusive chemistry community

Chemistry should be for everyone and with your help, we will continue to make this a reality. Guided by data and evidence, we’re supporting and celebrating inclusion across the chemical sciences community, to create change for good.

Leave a gift in your will

By leaving a gift in your Will you will be supporting us to build a stronger and more hopeful future for the chemical sciences. You will be helping us to establish new training and mentoring schemes for chemistry teachers, giving a voice to the chemical sciences community and influencing decision-makers around the world.

How to include us in your Will

Whether you have a Will already, or you are planning to write your first one, it is advisable to visit your legal advisor, to make sure your wishes for your family and any charities can not be misunderstood later on.

To make a gift in your Will, you may need either to create a new Will, or add a Codicil to your present Will. A Codicil is a legal document that adds to or changes an existing Will. If you reside outside of the United Kingdom (UK), it may still be possible for you to include the Royal Society of Chemistry in your Will, however, we strongly recommend that you seek legal and financial advice in this regard. If you have any specific requests, we encourage you to get in touch with us prior to making your Will so we can work with you to maximise the impact of your gift.

There are two different types of gifts you can leave in your Will to support the work of the Royal Society of Chemistry. We recommend taking legal advice to help you decide which option works best for you:

A percentage of your estate

This is called a residual gift and is typically a portion of what is left after other legacies and expenses have been paid.

A sum of money

This is called a pecuniary gift, a specific sum of money that can be index-linked to safeguard its future value.

How your major donations can help

Build a brighter and more positive future

By inspiring today’s chemistry community and ensuring that the next generation has access to a life-changing education, you can invest in a bright, strong and hopeful future for the chemical sciences. A major gift of £5,000 or above will have an enormous impact on what these brilliant scientists can achieve. And by investing in the future, you will make sure they are ready to meet the world’s most pressing challenges - from climate change to disease control to the ending of global hunger.

A way to fund real and meaningful change

Together, we’ll identify the areas of our work that are most important to you. So if childhood education is your passion we will provide continued professional development (CPD) for teachers, close learning gaps between advantaged and disadvantaged students and support practical skills for both teachers and students.

And if you’re determined to ensure that scientists are supported throughout their career, we will fund grants to support mobility, removing barriers and enabling all scientists to collaborate with each other to help solve the most pressing global challenges and award prizes to recognise scientific excellence.

With regular updates and reports, you'll always know how and where your money is being spent. You’ll receive recognition and support, as well as invitations to exclusive events where you can connect with like-minded individuals from the chemical science community.

An opportunity that’s right for you

We are incredibly grateful for the kind philanthropy of our donors, as without their generosity we couldn’t fulfil our important mission. If you are considering your own philanthropic gift to the Royal Society of Chemistry, we’d love to talk to you. To further discuss your wishes, and any significant opportunities that we can offer, please get in touch using the contact details on this page.

The Yusuf Hamied Inspirational Science Programme

Since 2014, The Yusuf Hamied Inspirational Science Programme has improved science education across India by providing free ‘chemistry camp’ places to thousands of students from underprivileged backgrounds, as well as upskilling and supporting their teachers. Dr Hamied says of his philanthropic support "India’s next generation of chemists and scientists could play a significant role in shaping the world we live in and improving our day-to-day lives, which is why I am so passionate about this programme."

In memory of James Diamond

Ann Helsby, who donated to the Royal Society of Chemistry in memory of her late father, says "My late father, James Diamond, was a Fellow of the RSC and had been a member for over 60 years. As Executors my son and I were therefore pleased to be able to donate in his memory. The RSC, the importance of scientific work going forward, and the provision of education were all very important aspects to my father during his lifetime. We, therefore, chose to donate to the undergraduate research bursaries and technician grants to facilitate opportunities that perhaps promising individuals would not otherwise have available to them. We hope this will help to make a difference to them."
