Providing librarians or other authorised persons with statistics about their organisation's use of our online journal subscriptions.
We are a COUNTER compliant publisher, meaning we follow a code of practice that ensures we can provide our library customers with "consistent, credible and comparable usage data".

How to access usage reports
The reports are updated on, or shortly after, the 12th day of each month. You access the reports by logging in to the MPS Insight website and entering your username and password (case sensitive).
Registered users can opt to receive notification by email as soon as their updated reports are available – see the 'email alerts section' on MPSInsight.
The first time you log in with the details we provided, you will be prompted to choose a username / email address and password you wish to use. In future you will log in using the details you chose. If you have any questions, please get in touch using the contact details on this page.
- Start by clicking on 'Usage reports' at the top of the page
- If you manage more than one organisation, browse or search for your library account
- When you find the page for that account, select the year you want to download from the 'Reporting period' drop-down list at the top right
- Click on the icon that represents the format in which you want to download the data (CSV or XML)
- You will be asked whether you want to open or save the data; click Save and choose a location on your computer or network. Then click the Save button.
We have adopted Release 5 of the COUNTER Codes of Practice for producing usage reports for our journals.
Tutorial video
The COUNTER Project team has created a tutorial in their COUNTER Foundation Class series. It has been produced for them by Kornelia Junge the Senior Research Manager at Wiley and member of the COUNTER Executive Committee.
The tutorial provides a clear step by step guide to using Microsoft Excel with COUNTER Release reports. It explains how to filter reports, create a Pivot Table and how to total the usage metrics.

Please note the following:
- For a given journal, COUNTER statistics are reported for content published from 1997
- For our journals archive, COUNTER statistics are reported for all content published between 1841 and 1996 and are not broken down by individual journal titles
- Although COUNTER-compliant TR_J2 – Journal Access Denied and DR_D2 Database Access Denied are 'required' in the COUNTER Code of Practice, we are unable to produce data for these reports because the platform does not deny access in a way that COUNTER allows to be recorded as a denial. These reports will always show zero denials
