The British Carbon Group has funds available to assist student travel for participation in national and international meetings relating to the science and technology of carbon materials.
Please note, that applications are for travel funds only, not conference fees or accommodation. Sums awarded are normally up to £75 for a UK conference and up to £500 for international conferences.
Preference will be given to students, normally postgraduates registered for a research degree, who are:
- a presenting author at the conference
- promoting UK carbon research
- attending a conference organised by the British Carbon Group
- also trying to get money from other sources
Applicants should also note that as funds are limited, and to ensure an equitable distribution of funds, normally only one bursary may be awarded to the same research group/department for conferences in any given calendar year. Awardees are expected to join the British Carbon Group via the RSC, IOP or SCI or already be members.
Applicants, if awarded a BCG Student Travel Bursary, must write a short article (500 words) on some aspect of the meeting or their area of carbon research, for consideration for inclusion in the BCG Newsletter. Cheques will only be issued after the conference has taken place and on receipt of the short article mentioned above. Applications should be made in writing on the application form and they must be accompanied by a letter from the student's supervisor or Head of Department supporting the application and specifying to whom any cheque should be made payable.
