RSC launches two new interdisciplinary journals with a focus on applied science
The Royal Society of Chemistry has launched two new journals centred on innovative applied research across the interfacial and polymer science spectrum. These are the RSC's first pair of publications focused solely on applied science breakthroughs.
RSC Applied Interfaces and RSC Applied Polymers will showcase the latest interdisciplinary research as part of our burgeoning materials portfolio. By placing a spotlight on new studies, the chemical sciences community can learn from each other as we bid to tackle some of the great challenges facing the world today.
These new journals are both Gold Open Access, meaning articles will be freely available online for anyone, anywhere to read. The Royal Society of Chemistry will also pay for all article processing charges (APCs) until mid-2025, making it free for researchers to publish their work.
Two highly prominent experts in their respective fields have accepted the editor-in-chief positions for these new titles.
Professor Emily Pentzer, an associate professor of materials science and engineering at Texas A&M University in the USA, has been named the first editor-in-chief of RSC Applied Polymers.
She said she believes this new journal could become a pre-eminent publication in its field, with real benefits for the chemical sciences community.
"I am excited about the opportunity to support the launch and sustained growth of RSC Applied Polymers and enhance the scientific community by providing the premier home for publications that leverage polymers for a diverse range of applications," she said.
The inaugural editor-in-chief of RSC Applied Interfaces is Professor Federico Rosei, a professor and a former director of the Institut National de la Recherche Scientifique, Énergie, Matériaux et Télécommunications in Varennes (QC), Canada.
He is similarly enthused about the potential of the new publication and wants to bring together working on research in this area.
"I am excited to step into this new role, that of shaping a journal and the community around it - and doing so from the start as founding editor-in-chief," Professor Rosei said.
This decision to make these publications Gold Open Access is part of our organisational commitment to make all our fully-owned journal Open Access by 2027.
