Aoife Morrin

Dublin City University

Biography

Aoife Morrin is Associate Professor in the School of Chemical Sciences at Dublin City University (DCU). Aoife studied Applied Sciences (Chemistry and Mathematics) at Dublin Institute of Technology and later completed a PhD in electroanalytical chemistry in 2000.

Following postdoctoral research, in 2004 she took up a lecturing position at DCU. In 2015 she became Associate Professor and later joined the INSIGHT Research Ireland Centre for Data Analytics as a funded investigator. She also served as the Director of the National Centre for Sensor Research at DCU from 2020-2024. Her research focuses in the field of electroanalytical device development for environmental and biomedical sensing applications.

Aoife has a special interest in applying stimuli-responsive materials including conducting polymers and functionalised hydrogels in chemical and bio-sensing applications. A current application focus is in wearable platforms covering biomarker capture and sensing in tissue. She also has active research in understanding the volatile emission from human skin and identifying markers of interest for new types of wearable sensing platforms.
